Fireworks, candles, bonfires and grilling can cause serious fire damage to your property this Fourth of July. It is important to always be careful with any flames indoors or outside. When setting up your family picnic for the holiday make sure that your grill and bonfire are far away from flammable materials such as your house, swing sets, lawn furniture, trees and other household items. A small spark or ember can begin a fire. When it comes to the evening activities of fireworks to begin it is important to follow these guidelines:
- Check the weather, make sure high winds aren't in the forecast. High winds can end up blowing your fireworks farther than expected.
- Have a bucket full of water nearby to extinguish fireworks and sparklers.
- Keep a fire extinguisher with you in case an ember starts a fire.
- Have the audience in a secure area to watch the fireworks. Make sure children aren't running around when lighting off fireworks. Also, don't let children run with handheld sparklers
